Sydenham, formerly known as Sippenham, became fashionable in the mid 19th century due to its proximity to the newly relocated Crystal Palace. This period yielded a wealth of mid-Victorian architecture that characterises much of the area to this day, and despite more recent urban development, plenty of open green space remains. It's this mix of old and new that gives Sydenham a broad mix of property types.
Sydenham Road forms the area's arterial centre with a cosmopolitan mix of shops, cafes and food markets. There are strong transport links to central London and the area can boast a long list of famous residents including WG Grace, CS Forrester and Earnest Shackleton.
