      Description

The property, known as Clarendon House is likely to have provided inn-like hospitality when built in the late 15th century, as it combined four burgages and was in the possession of the Brotherhood of St Katherine. Built in about 1845 along with the adjoining Old Stone House they were used up to the beginning of the 19th century by judges holding Winter Assizes in Sussex including, according to local legend, the notorious Judge Jeffreys.

The timber framed building now offers two floors of commercial use divided into individual spaces all adorned with original fire places, exposed traditional timber and original leaded glass windows.

The property abuts Old Stone House, 2 stories, 3 gables with modern plaster filling fronting Judge’s Terrace. Original stone plinths with oak pegged bay windows. The roof is covered with the typical Horsham slabs.
