Owners comments
One of our greatest pleasures at Dugdale Cottage is arriving home, parking up in our spacious drive, walking down the gravel path to the house surrounded by lavender bushes, and looking over at the beautiful, ever-changing, open field to the side of the garden. We love being able to have a glass of wine in the garden, listening to the birds (or Winston and Churchill, the local donkeys) without being overlooked, or to watch the incredible process of harvest at that special time of year.
Kimpton village is super-friendly and, between visiting the village pub, attending the Village Hall for quiz nights, or walking our dogs, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know all our neighbours. Our next-door neighbours are good, considerate friends, and we all support each other when needed without being intrusive. The ‘Welcome Stranger’ pub is unique and a rare find these days. It bucks the pub closure trend by staying family owned (through several generations), and by doing what it does best: Offering a great first-name terms welcome, providing fabulous beer and amazing music nights. It is situated down a quiet no-through road and just a 5-minute walk. A true gem.
Dugdale Cottage is a wonderful mix of new and old. We have a history of it dating back over 200 years, and from its Kimpton Arms pub days and its brief time of being an off-licence before becoming residential, with the new owner writing up its history. It has been modernised and expanded over the years, turning a small pub/cottage into a beautiful four-double-bedded home with three bathroom/shower rooms and great living space. The old part has wonderful cob walls that keep us warm in winter and cool in summer and has a homely log burner, with the newer extension to the South and East (our ‘Breakfast Room’) offering sunshine all day long.
We will miss all that Dugdale Cottage, the village and our neighbours (friends and family) have given us, but we are excited to move onto our next phase of life: Being more active grandparents to our one-year-old granddaughter in Hertfordshire.
