A rare opportunity to acquire a substantial five-bedroom detached family home in one of Hove’s most sought-after residential crescents. Spanning approximately 3,000 sq. Ft. Across two floors, this impressive property combines generous proportions, oodles of period features, a mature rear garden and direct access to the much-loved Davis Park via a discreet gated entrance.
From the moment you step inside, character features abound. The vibrant stained glass throughout fills this home with colour and light. Many of the principal rooms retain original fireplaces, each adding warmth and charm to the elegant proportions. Original parquet and pine flooring, crittall windows and cast iron radiators all contribute to the period charm that this home retains.
The house is arranged with a wonderful sense of balance and space. The ground floor offers two large connecting reception rooms, each filled with natural light and ideal for both family living and entertaining. A well-appointed kitchen sits at the heart of the home, complemented by a practical utility room, cloakroom and excellent storage throughout. Upstairs, five double bedrooms are set around a broad landing, creating a superb layout for family life. The property also holds exciting scope for extension into the vast loft space (subject to planning), offering future buyers the opportunity to further enhance the home.
Outside, the rear garden is a true highlight — beautifully stocked with mature planting and fruit trees, it feels both private and expansive. At the far end, a secluded gate opens directly into Davis Park, making this an exceptional setting for families.
Amesbury Crescent is renowned for its leafy setting, strong community feel, and convenient access to excellent local schools, Hove Park, Hove Station, and the seafront. Independent shops, cafés, and restaurants are all close by, making this an exceptional location for family living.
A rare opportunity to secure a landmark Hove residence, blending size, character, and future potential
What the owner says.....
For the past 18 years this house has been the heart of our family life and it has been a wonderful house to socialise in with friends. Now, with our family grown, it feels like the right moment to pass it on to the next lucky owners.
When we first walked through the door, we knew straight away it was special. We had been looking for a Victorian or Edwardian property, but this 1930s home immediately stood out—so much space, beautiful original features, and a warm, welcoming feel so we couldn't help but offer on the spot.
The house was built on the largest plot in Amesbury Crescent, likely for the original architect, and you can feel that in the proportions.
We've enjoyed the open aspect from the front down Park Avenue to the sea and the back looking over leafy Davis Park. The gardens surrounding the house are green and private: The front with a tall hedge and space to sit out, while the back is sunny all day in summer, sheltered, and opens directly into Davis Park. We love the old apple tree, which also provides shade for summer lunches and dinners. Both gardens, rich in greenery, are filled with bird life. When our children were young, the park was their extended playground. It's now perfect for quickly exercising our dog, it’s friendly, and we’ve had many chats with neighbours there. And with Hove Gym just a one-minute stroll across the park, it’s been wonderfully convenient for us too.
The location has been everything we could have wished for. We are just a block and a half from the beach, a short stroll to Wish Park and Hove Lagoon, and now right by all the facilities at the recently opened Beach Park. Add Rockwater and Babble for food and drinks by the sea, local coffee shops, plentiful supermarkets, independent shops, and restaurants within a short walk, plus easy bus and cycle routes into Brighton—it’s the best of both worlds. From this part of Hove there is a really quick exit North and you can be up on the Downs for a long country walk within 10 minutes by car.
Over the years we’ve been blessed with wonderful neighbours and a real sense of community on this quiet, friendly street. It’s peaceful here with little passing traffic, yet everything you need is close at hand.
There are practical benefits too—a large garage, off-road parking plus ample on-street parking, side access on both sides, a utility room and big cloak room, and a huge attic that we always thought would make an incredible studio or loft room with views down toward the sea.
This has been a happy, much-loved home, and we hope whoever comes next will enjoy it every bit as much as we have
