Property History

The Aldersyde House, also known as the Aldersyde and Attached Conservatory, is a Grade II listed building in Dringhouses & Woodthorpe, York, England. It was designed by A J Penty, of Penty & Penty, for the miller Ernest Leetham. The house features red brick with ashlar dressings, timber-framed upper floors with rough-cast and brick nogging, and C20 concrete tile roofs with tall ornate chimney stacks. It has a 2-storey plus attics design, with a projecting 3-storey porch and a large ashlar 5-light mullion and transom window to the main staircase. The interior includes a fine panelled hall, a large and a triple arched loggia in the staircase hall. The building is a significant example of the architectural style of the mid 19th century and is protected by law as a grade II listed building.

Property Description

Beautiful 19th Century building which has been converted into tasteful apartments. The Apartment available has been redecorated and some improvements have been implemented during the owners time in the property.

The accommodation is accessed via a secured communal door which leads to the internal communal hall and staircase with fine panelling and ornate balustrade. The staircase leads to the first floor landing, take a look at the wall before you move to the second floor, as the plans of the original house are displayed here. A second staircase leads to the apartment.

The first hallway within the apartment, offers access to the inner hall and in turn the built in storage cupboards. Leading on from the hallway the living room with rear aspect beautiful windows giving a light and airy feel to the room and curved ceiling provides that all important touch of character. An open access leads to the fitted kitchen, with built in appliances, a plethora of modern style wall and base units and views over the gardens.
The Master Bedroom has an alcove which lends itself to a reading nook and two double wardrobes with hanging rails and shelving. A part panelled feature to the bedroom wall provides that added touch of class to the decor of the room.

Moving from the master bedroom to the hallway and second bedroom, the room also has those wonderful grade II windows with secondary glazing and has an elegant simple decor that would suit a guest room or with a splash of colour a childs' room can easily be created. The family bathroom has been modernised and comprises of a panelled bath, separate shower cubicle, wash hand basin and wc. Look out for the secret storage cupboard at the end of the bath.

The property is Grade II listed and therefore has secondary double glazed windows (less one window in the kitchen by the owners choice). The heating is provided by Economy 7 Heaters with one Electric heater in the kitchen.

Lets take a look at the communal outside gardens, beautifully maintained they are an oasis of lawns with flower beds and shrubs, with access to a communal Victorian conservatory. A garage and separate parking space provide off road parking for two cars.

Viewing is highly recommend, see inside a piece of York history.
