What We Love About Our Home And Why We’re Moving On
What we’ve always loved about this home is how naturally it brings people together. The kitchen, with its Aga, big island, dining table and cosy TV corner, has been the centre of so many moments cooking, chatting, laughing, and simply being together. It’s the kind of space where everyone gravitates, no matter what else is going on.
The five ensuite bedrooms have made life easy and comfortable, giving everyone their own space while still feeling connected. We’ve enjoyed the large lounge for relaxing, the dining room for special occasions, and the study for those quieter moments.
The annex has been one of the most useful parts of the house. With its two ensuite bedrooms, extra kitchen and living room, it’s given us incredible flexibility perfect for guests, family visits, or just having a bit of extra room when needed.
Outside, the gated driveway, double garage and generous parking have been so practical, and the large back garden has been a peaceful place to unwind. The garden room, now our fitness studio, has become a space we’ve genuinely enjoyed.
And now, with it being just the two of us, we feel it’s the right time to let another family enjoy everything this wonderful home has to offer. It’s a house that’s meant to be lived in, filled with people, and full of life, and we’re ready for it to start its next chapter with someone new.
Jack’s Comments
Let me walk you through this one, because it is a home that really unfolds as you move through it.
From the moment you pull up on Barkham Ride, there is an immediate sense of presence. It has that classic Finchampstead kerb appeal, attractive, established, and full of character. You can tell straight away this is not a standard, boxy home.
As you step inside, what strikes you first is the space. The proportions are genuinely impressive. The main living areas feel open yet cosy at the same time, perfect for family life but equally brilliant for entertaining. I always think homes like this need to flow well, and this one absolutely does. You can imagine hosting Christmas here, summer garden parties, or just having everyone spread out comfortably on a Sunday afternoon.
The kitchen and family spaces are where this house really comes into its own. There is proper room to live, not just to cook. It is easy to picture morning coffees, homework at the table, friends gathered around. And then when you explore further, the additional reception rooms, study areas and outbuildings give you so much flexibility. Whether you need working from home space, a studio, or somewhere for teenagers to escape to, it is all here.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are generous and well laid out, giving everyone their own space without compromise. The overall feel is one of quality and warmth, a house that has grown beautifully over time and offers something a little bit special.
And of course, being in Finchampstead, you are surrounded by countryside, great schools and that strong community feel, while still being well connected to Reading and beyond.
This is not just a big house. It is a character home with real presence, incredible space and a setting that is hard to beat.

For commuters, the location works well. Wokingham and Crowthorne stations provide rail links into Reading and London, and there is convenient access to the A329M and M4 for road connections.
The area is popular with families due to its access to well regarded local schools and nearby green space, including California Country Park and surrounding woodland. It offers a balance of space and convenience without feeling remote.
