Location and Transport
The property enjoys a prime Bloomsbury location, one of Central London’s most desirable and characterful neighbourhoods, known for its garden squares, historic architecture, and academic institutions. Residents are just moments from the Brunswick Centre, offering a variety of retail outlets, supermarkets, cafés, and restaurants, while nearby Marchmont Street and Lamb’s Conduit Street provide a more village-like atmosphere with independent boutiques, eateries, and artisan coffee shops.
For green space, the beautiful Russell Square Gardens are within easy walking distance, along with Coram’s Fields and the open spaces around Tavistock Square. The area is also home to world-renowned institutions including ucl, soas, and the British Museum, adding to its cultural appeal.
Transport connections are exceptional. Russell Square Underground Station (Piccadilly Line) is just a short walk away, providing direct access to Covent Garden, Leicester Square, and Heathrow Airport. King’s Cross St Pancras, one of London’s major transport hubs, is also within easy reach, offering access to six Underground lines (including Northern, Victoria, Piccadilly, Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan), as well as National Rail services and Eurostar connections to Europe.
'What the Owner Says'
"We first encountered Jessel House when we bought a one-bedroom flat in 2005. We loved it so much that we jumped when the opportunity came up in 2009 to move into this 2 bedroom flat where we enjoyed living for 13 years until 2022.
Initially we were unsure about a first floor flat, but we’ve always been glad about our choice, in fact we’ve found there’s some real benefits such as not being reliant on the elevator. Jessel House has a real “community feel” with many residents who have been here for decades. There’s a great WhatsApp group for residents to share news and a “Residents Association” to act for leaseholders and keep things running smoothly. We did look at some of the newer developments over the years but found this sense of community somewhat lacking. The cctv system in the building and secure bike storage in the secluded rear courtyard really help us feel secure. The sense of community and neighbourliness really is irreplaceable.
Of course the location is unmatched in London, our family is lucky to own several properties across London but out of those, we chose this as our home for more than a decade. Over the time we’ve lived here, we have enjoyed watching Kings Cross become a destination of its own with Waitrose, Gails Bakery to Nando’s coming to the Brunswick and at Granary Square just the other side of the station for some of the best tapas in London at Barrafina or Indian food at Dishoom, followed by an evening walk along the canal.
We have always loved Bloomsbury’s own “high street” of shops and cafes on Marchmont Street, a real hidden gem of independent outlets many of which have been established for years.
For travel, the location really can’t be beaten, with Manchester, Brussels and Paris all about 2 hours from our doorstep! Wherever you work in London, the commute is shortest from the biggest transport hub. (If needed parking is also available on the side streets under the local permit scheme.)
As Jessel House is aligned north to south, sunlight is surprisingly good in the flat, with the sun rising at the front door in the morning and then going over the top of the building and in the afternoon the sun sets over Judd Street. As the flat is dual aspect there’s always a breeze available even on warm still summer days.
In 2022 we moved to be nearer to family and now it’s time to let someone else open the next chapter in the story of the home we’ve loved being custodian of."
