Stunning church conversion in scenic, rural setting.

Description
Situated 2.5 miles from the thriving village of Mintlaw near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Torreagles sits in a wonderfully picturesque rural setting. Converted from a Victorian free church, this striking and characterful granite building is now a stylish residential property arranged over two floors.

The traditional stone building is in a cross shape with large glass lancet shaped windows and an impressive square bell tower entrance. Here the flagstones and exposed stone walls reveal the rich heritage of the building. At the centre of Torreagles is the magnificent cinema/games room – a generously sized space that could be reimagined in various ways. A cosy bookshelf-lined library makes a peaceful retreat. The former church hall has been converted into a dining kitchen includes dark blue cabinetry, integrated appliances, a breakfast bar and a tiled floor; the dining area features warm wood wall panelling and a beamed vaulted ceiling and there are patio doors out to the garden. Under the kitchen diner is a cellar with a domed ceiling and flagstone floor.

The five bedrooms at Torreagles are all large doubles, feature high ceilings and display some lovely original features and an unusual stepped window seat. There are two contemporary shower rooms, and the principal bedroom has a luxurious dual access bathroom with freestanding bath and separate oversized shower. Completing the ground floor is the utility/boot room.

The first floor is entirely given over to a superb sitting room which is dominated by a huge stained glass window and cross beamed ceiling.

With the necessary consents and permissions, an extensive loft space with strikingly high ceilings and generous wooden beams offers exceptional potential to extend and create additional characterful accommodation.

Outside: Torreagles sits amongst its own gardens of approximately an acre which include expanses of lawn, mature shrubs and trees along with a gravelled seating/dining area. There is also a detached circular garden room. The property enjoys a wonderful sense of privacy, being surrounded by open countryside.

Clola Church has never had a graveyard. Instead, parishioners were offered grave sites in Deer parish.

Garage: Integral to the property from the hallway is a large garage.

Historical Note: Torreagles was converted from Clola Free Church of Scotland, which was erected in 1864 on a knoll on the eastern side of the Burn of Clola in Clola on the Barony of Kinmundy. The granite church was financed through donations from the congregation and friends residing in Scotland and further afield.
The impressive stained glass window was added in 1909 and commemorates William Ferguson Kinmundy, former chairman of the Great North of Scotland Railway. The architects of Clola Free Church were Mr Archibald Campbell Douglas and Mr James Stevenson of Glasgow.
