The Area

Pevensey Bay is a peaceful seaside village approximately a 15-minute drive from Eastbourne. An active community within Pevensey Bay has seen dedication to both swimming and sailing clubs, among others. The excellent Sovereign Harbour Marina is just a six-minute drive away for those interested in keeping a larger boat. The marina also hosts a number of restaurants and cafes.

Eastbourne itself has an ever-growing array of places to eat and drink. The wonderful Light restaurant on the top floor of the celebrated Towner gallery is a local favourite. Others include Skylark café and Cru wine bar. The Towner exhibitions are brilliant, attracting visitors from all over. Eastbourne has three theatres with diverse programming. Contemporary plays, comedy and world musicians are in plenty.

The medieval Pevensey Castle is a few minutes’ drive from the house, and makes an excellent weekend excursion. The wonderful Herstmonceux Castle is only slightly further afield, with over 600 acres of woodland, wildflower meadows and gardens. The spectacular South Downs National Park is just moments away, providing near-endless walking, cycling and running routes, including the Seven Sisters trail. Pevensey Levels wetlands are internationally regarded as a crucial habitat for many unusual birds and plants.

The popular seaside towns of St Leonards-on-Sea and Hastings are both within a 40-minute drive; the latter is home to the Hastings Contemporary gallery, the recipient of several architectural awards.

There are plenty of excellent schooling options in the local area, including Pevensey & Westham Primary, Eastbourne College and St Andrews Prep School.

Normans Bay rail station is a four-minute drive away, and runs services to London Victoria in around an hour and 50 minutes. Pevensey Bay and Pevensey and Westham stations are also close by and offer direct services to Eastbourne, Brighton, Lewes and beyond.
