Description
The Haven is a charming early Georgian cottage dating back to circa 1900, which is situated in the attractive conservation fishing village of Cullen on Scotland’s northeast coast. This beautifully presented semi-detached home is rich in character and sits just a short distance from the sea, with wonderful views to be enjoyed from the top floor and from the end of the short cul de sac. Built from stone and with a painted picket fence, The Haven has an exceptionally pretty exterior, particularly when the climbing plants, including a stunning clematis, are in bloom. The four bedroom, two bathroom property benefits from a private garden and garage.
The Haven is arranged over two floors and begins with an entrance hall, off which are the main rooms and one of the double bedrooms and the original timber staircase. Like much of the house, the floor consists of golden sanded and sealed floorboards which create a warm effect throughout. At the heart of the home is an inviting dining kitchen which has a welcoming, farmhouse feel, with slate flooring and an exposed stone wall within which is an inglenook fireplace and woodburning stove. The kitchen includes a Shaker style dresser unit, Falcon range cooker with hood and five ring hob, Siemens appliances and polished granite worktops. The utility room has matching fitted units and Miele appliances, while a fully tiled downstairs shower room boasts a mains shower. The sitting room features vintage cast iron radiators (echoed in most of the house), inset shelves and a fine fireplace along with working window shutters.
Upstairs are the other four double bedrooms; one to the rear is accessed by its own staircase and enjoys stunning sea views. Another is fully lined in pine, giving it a cosy, Scandinavian feel. Servicing the first floor bedrooms is a modern bathroom with mains shower.
Outside: The gardens at The Haven sit to the front and back, bounded by stone walls and timber fencing. Expanses of lawn are interspersed with trees, shrubs and flowerbeds and there is a granite-paved patio. At the top right corner is a substantial timber outbuilding along with a store attached to the garage and a further garden shed housing a WC and stainless steel sink.
Garage: There is a detached single car garage, formally number 15 Lower Blantyre Street.
Location
This most attractive property sits in an elevated position in Cullen, an attractive fishing village and former Royal Burgh on the North Sea coast on the A98, about (20 miles) from Elgin. The surrounding landscape is much admired and is included in the North East 250 route. Cullen boasts a traditional harbour and a long stretch of sandy beach famous for the ‘Three Kings’ rock feature and with excellent coastal walks to Sunnyside beach as well as the ruins of Findlater Castle. The beautiful waters surrounding the village make an excellent spot for swimming. Adjacent to the beach is the impressive Cullen golf course, designed by Tom Morris, along with club facilities and car parking. Dotted throughout the town are a range of tea rooms, restaurants and hotels (Cullen Skink is a local delicacy) as well as antique and gift shops, a pharmacy, a medical centre and a small supermarket. The Seafield Arms is a 4 star hotel with bar and restaurant. Pre-school and primary education is available in the village, while secondary schools are located in the nearby town of Buckie, some six miles away, where there are also larger nhs facilities, banks and supermarkets. Gordonstoun School accepts day and boarding pupils and is about (29 miles) away. The nearby River Spey and the Deveron are two of Scotland’s premier fishing rivers. There are unlimited opportunities for hill walking, with deer forests and grouse moors also within easy reach. The area is famed for its varied and abundant wildlife, and there are, of course, a number of well-known distilleries.
