Architecture & Interior
Not many houses like this exist in the urban sprawl of North West London. Built in the late 20s during the interwar period, this home maintains nearly all original features throughout including all timber partition walls. The property itself is constructed on a brick base, with a timber frame and leaded windows.
Sitting on a wider than average plot, the neighbouring property burnt down in the late 1960s, with the driveway and rear garden being amalgamated together to create one magnificent proposition. As you approach the house, a quaint countryside scene is depicted reminiscent of when the area was just fields for miles around.
Entering into a wide hallway and turn into a warm and relaxing living room facing the front garden. The original design of these homes was centred around an inglenook fireplace logically placed in the middle to heat the entire property, the remnants of which are situated behind the living room wall and could be opened up again, if so desired.
Flowing through to a comfortable dining room perfect for cosy dining, there is a delightful corner window looking out over the rear garden which a great spot to relax. Adjacent the kitchen has great potential and could integrate a grand old pantry. A downstairs W/C completes the ground floor.
Upstairs, three bright & airy bedrooms spread off a wide hallway and are packed full of authentic features. A decent bathroom suite is easily accessible to all rooms and includes a storage room just off the landing.
Out to the rear garden, a mature set of trees and shrubs line an established lawn. It’s a wonderful oasis, capturing sunlight nearly all day from every angle.
Sitting slightly out of sight there is a former music performance & recording studio, which in a past life featured a host of big industry names. There is huge potential to renovate into a fully kitted out studio, with two recording booths, performance area and a kitchenette with plumbing and waste. A wider variety of opportunities are also possible, but it would be quite special to restore it back to its former musical heritage.
To the front there is a brick-built garage in need of demolition. This could be rebuilt as a car port, additional studio accommodation or merely left to lawn.
History
Windy Ridge was designed and built in 1929 by local quirky & renowned architect E.G. Trobridge. Forming part of the wider ‘Summit Estate’, aptly named as it is located on the highest point in the London Borough of Brent.
Using his patented ‘Compressed Green Wood Construction’ method which focused on proven ancient construction that was modified to meet modern needs of the time. Typical of his early Arts and Crafts style, Buck Lane plays host to a great number of Trobridge’s creations. All his ideas were first debuted at the Ideal Home Exhibition of 1920. The use of green elm wood meant the house could be completed in under 8 weeks from felling a tree and weighed around a fifth of a brick-built house.
These designs were well received and enabled him to progress and spread his designs around Kingsbury. Buck Lane plays host to the bulk of his remaining famous designs, including Windy Ridge.
In The neighbourhood
Kingsbury High Street is under a 15mins walk away and maintains a classic London high street with all necessary services including butchers, bakers, post office and a great array of independent shops.
