The sellers view...
We moved to Lilyvale in 2006 with our two young children and have loved it ever since. What first drew us in were the 1930s period features and the real open fireplace, giving the house that warm, characterful feel you just don’t get in newer homes. Over the years we’ve carefully updated and extended the property to suit modern family life, while keeping that original charm.
Inside, we’ve invested in improvements that genuinely make day-to-day living easy. Both bathrooms have been replaced, the garage has been converted to provide a versatile fourth bedroom/home office, and we added a downstairs cloakroom-ideal for busy mornings and when friends visit.
The heart of the home is the kitchen–diner: A bright, sociable space with built-in appliances, an Indian marble island and plenty of room for family life, homework and entertaining. In warmer months, the full-width bi-fold doors transform the way you use the house: Opening the living space straight out to the garden for barbecues, family gatherings and relaxed evenings. At the front, the reception room feels like a cosy snug, with real wood flooring and an open fireplace that’s perfect on winter nights. For modern working, we also added a Green Retreats garden office that comfortably accommodates four desks; it would also make an excellent games room, studio, gym or TV room depending on what the next owners need.
This has been a very happy family home. Our three girls have attended local schools and sixth forms, and we still have one at the Ofsted “Outstanding” Newlands Girls’ School. We’ve made wonderful friends locally and the area is fantastic for family life and weekends alike. If you don’t already know it, you’re brilliantly placed for riverside walks and days out in Cookham, Marlow and Henley, as well as Windsor. We’re often out walking the parks, woodland and green spaces nearby and yet you’re still close to shops, cafés and all the amenities. Maidenhead has become a real foodie destination too, with great places to eat and meet friends.
Practicalities are equally strong: For commuters, the M404 is only minutes away, linking quickly to both the M4 and M40. Maidenhead station is around a 25-minute walk, a 5-minute drive or about a 10-minute bus ride, with the bus stop at the end of the road. We also love having the Scout Hut close by-our children enjoyed being part of local Scout and Guide groups-adding to the real community feel here.
As we prepare to move west to be closer to family and gradually slow down, we do so with very mixed feelings. Lilyvale has been a wonderful family home-full of character, practical space and a real sense of community-and we’ve loved how easily it supports everyday life, entertaining and working from home. We hope the next owners enjoy it as much as we have and create their own happy memories here.
