Why buy this home?

Set towards the edge of this popular modern development in Shortstown, this impressive five-bedroom detached home enjoys a position that feels noticeably quieter and less enclosed than many newer developments. With no houses directly opposite and a private access road shared with just three other homes there is a real sense of space around the home, while countryside walks are close by and the A421 provides excellent links towards Bedford, Milton Keynes and beyond.

Arranged over three floors, the home has an imposing appearance and offers around 1,450 sq ft of accommodation, making it particularly well suited to growing families and those with children of different ages. To the rear, a private access road leads to the spacious single garage, with parking for one car in front, while further visitor parking can be found nearby.

Stepping inside, the spacious central entrance hall immediately gives a good sense of the proportions on offer. With solid wood flooring continuing through into the living room, there is plenty of space for coats, shoes and even the inevitable buggy that comes with younger family life. From here, the ground floor naturally divides, with the living room to one side and the kitchen/dining room to the other.

The living room is a fantastic size, running the full depth of the home and enjoying plenty of natural light from its dual-aspect design. A window looks out to the front, while French doors at the rear open directly onto the garden, creating an easy connection between inside and out. The solid wood flooring adds warmth and character, while the generous proportions provide plenty of flexibility for larger sofas and family seating.

Across the hall, the kitchen/dining room is another wonderfully sociable space and, again, runs from front to back. The kitchen offers an excellent amount of storage and worktop space, with a peninsula providing additional preparation space and a natural divide between the cooking and dining areas. There is ample room for a large six-seater family dining table, while a front-facing window and French doors opening onto the garden ensure the room feels light throughout the day. It is a space that works equally well for busy family breakfasts, evening meals and entertaining friends.

The bedroom arrangement is where this home really stands out, particularly for a growing family. Spread across the first and second floors are four genuinely generous double bedrooms alongside a spacious fifth bedroom, giving everyone the opportunity to have their own space.

On the first floor are three bedrooms, including the master bedroom with its own en-suite shower room. Having three bedrooms together on this level makes the layout particularly practical for families with younger children who still want everyone sleeping close by. The family bathroom is also found on this floor and includes a bath with shower over.

Continue upstairs and the top floor creates what could be an ideal space for older or teenage children. Two large double bedrooms occupy this level, together with their own separate shower room, giving older children a degree of independence while remaining very much part of the family home. Equally, with five bedrooms in total, there is plenty of flexibility for those who need a dedicated home office or guest room.

Presented in excellent condition throughout, the home feels clean, modern and ready for its next owners to move straight into. The combination of generous living spaces, an unusually versatile five-bedroom layout and accommodation arranged across three floors makes this a home that can comfortably adapt as a family grows.

Outside, the garden can be accessed directly from both the living room and kitchen/dining room, helping the ground floor flow naturally into the outdoor space during the warmer months. To the rear, the single garage and driveway provide off-road parking for two vehicles in total.

For families looking for space, this is a home that offers far more than simply five bedrooms. Its thoughtful layout provides room for everyone to find their own corner of the house, while still offering the generous communal spaces that bring family life together. Add in its quieter position towards the edge of the development, countryside walks close to the doorstep and excellent commuter links via the A421, and this is a home particularly well suited to family life at every stage.

More about the location...

Shortstown is a popular and growing Bedfordshire village situated just south of Bedford, offering an appealing combination of modern family living, countryside surroundings and excellent commuter connections. The A421 is easily accessible, providing convenient links towards Bedford, Milton Keynes and Junction 13 of the M1, while the surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunities for walking and enjoying the outdoors.

The village has a fascinating aviation heritage and owes its origins to the nearby Cardington airship works. Shortstown was originally created by the pioneering Short Brothers to provide homes for workers employed at their airship factory, with the early village laid out in the fashionable Garden City style. By June 1919,151 homes had been built.

Dominating the local skyline are the iconic Cardington Airship Hangars, an enduring reminder of the area's important role in British aviation history. The first enormous airship shed was constructed during the First World War, with Cardington later becoming the Royal Airship Works and playing a central role in Britain's ambitious airship programme. The famous R101 was constructed at Cardington, while a second huge shed was relocated and re-erected alongside the first to accommodate the R100.

The site later became RAF Cardington, serving as an important RAF training and recruitment centre. During the Second World War, Cardington was heavily involved in training personnel for Britain's barrage balloon defences, and the wider site continued its association with the RAF until its closure in 2000.

Today, Shortstown has evolved into a thriving modern community, with newer developments bringing additional homes and amenities while the unmistakable Cardington Hangars provide a unique connection to the area's past. For buyers, the village offers an excellent balance of modern convenience and local history, with good commuter links, countryside walks and Bedford's wider range of shopping, schooling and leisure facilities all within easy reach.
