Inside, the ground floor has recently undergone an impressive transformation, creating a fabulous open-plan living, dining, and kitchen that flows beautifully into the living room and conservatory. Add in a cosy log-burning stove, stylish new kitchen, ground-floor WC, integral garage, driveway parking, EV charging point and a brilliant family garden, and there really is far more here than first meets the eye.
Little Corby offers that increasingly desirable balance between village and countryside living without leaving Carlisle too far behind. The village sits to the east of the city, close to Warwick Bridge and Corby Hill, giving you access to useful everyday amenities while still allowing you to come home, close the front door and enjoy a much more relaxed setting. Hurley Road itself is particularly appealing, being a quiet no-through residential street where Number 19 enjoys that fantastic open aspect at the rear.
On arrival, the first impression is excellent. A generous block-paved driveway provides valuable off-road parking and leads towards the integral garage, while lawned areas introduce plenty of greenery to the frontage. There’s also an EV charging point already installed and ready to go, which is a brilliant addition for anyone who currently owns or is considering moving to an electric vehicle.
Step through the front door, and you immediately begin to appreciate just how much work has gone into transforming the ground floor.
The entrance hallway has been extended to create a surprisingly generous and incredibly bright space, with extensive glazing across the front allowing natural light to flood inside. Rather than feeling like a small transitional area, this now gives the house a really impressive introduction and immediately draws your eye towards the beautifully presented accommodation beyond.
The living room is a fantastic place to relax and immediately feels warm and inviting. A large window overlooks the front elevation and fills the room with natural light, while quality wooden flooring flows beneath your feet and continues seamlessly into the adjoining open-plan living, dining, and kitchen, helping the entire ground floor feel connected.
And then there’s the log burner.
Just imagine coming home on a cold winter evening, getting the fire going and settling down on the sofa while the logs crackle away. It creates a wonderful focal point within the room and sits beautifully alongside the contemporary media wall, complete with dedicated log storage. Recessed LED ceiling spotlights complete the modern finish, creating a room that manages to feel stylish and contemporary while still retaining that all-important cosy atmosphere.
A wide opening from the living room takes you directly into the recently transformed open-plan living, dining kitchen - and wow, what a space this really is!
The kitchen has only recently been installed and has completely changed the feel of this part of the house. An extensive range of wall and base units finished in a gorgeous navy matt colour are complemented beautifully by brass handles, crisp white work surfaces and matching upstands, creating a smart contemporary finish that immediately catches the eye.
There’s an excellent range of integrated appliances too, including an eye-level electric oven with combination grill above, four-ring gas hob, integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher and even an integrated wine cooler - perfect for keeping a bottle chilled, ready for those Friday evenings or summer gatherings with friends.
A breakfast bar provides another really useful addition and is perfect for casual breakfasts, grabbing a quick coffee before work or sitting the children down with a slice of toast before school. It also creates somewhere for family and friends to sit and chat while somebody else is cooking, adding to the sociable nature of the room.
But perhaps our favourite feature of the kitchen isn’t actually the kitchen itself.
It’s the view from the sink.
Stand here washing the dishes and instead of looking towards another row of houses, your eye travels across the rear garden and straight towards the surrounding green fields beyond. Depending on the time of year, you may even find yourself watching cattle grazing in the field while you’re making your morning coffee or clearing up after dinner. It’s one of those simple everyday things that you could very quickly take for granted, but it gives Number 19 a lovely countryside feel and is something you simply cannot recreate with a new kitchen or a tin of paint.
The kitchen also benefits from useful under-stairs storage, providing somewhere to keep all those household items you don’t necessarily want on display. There’s also the brilliant addition of a ground-floor WC, cleverly created by utilising a small section of the integral garage. It’s one of those practical improvements that makes a huge difference to family life and means guests don’t need to head upstairs whenever nature calls.
The dining area forms another fantastic part of this open-plan space and comfortably accommodates a substantial dining table and chairs, making it perfect for everyday family meals as well as those occasions when everyone gets together. Christmas dinner, birthdays, Sunday lunch, or simply sitting down together at the end of a busy day - there’s plenty of room here to do it properly.
Sliding patio doors lead seamlessly from the dining area into the conservatory, providing yet another living space and continuing that fantastic connection with the garden.
The conservatory is a wonderful addition to Number 19 and is absolutely flooded with natural light. With views across the rear garden and towards the open fields beyond, this is a lovely place to sit with a morning coffee, read a book, entertain friends or simply relax and watch the world go by. A uPVC double-glazed door provides direct access onto the rear garden, so during the warmer months the conservatory becomes a natural extension of the outside space.
The integral garage is accessed internally from the open-plan kitchen area and remains an incredibly useful part of the property, providing a huge amount of storage for bikes, tools, outdoor equipment and all those things that can quickly clutter up a family home.
Head upstairs and the first-floor landing provides access to all three bedrooms and the family bathroom.
Bedrooms one and two are both comfortable double rooms with plenty of space for bedroom furniture and excellent natural light through their large windows. Bedroom two, positioned at the rear, has been given additional personality with decorative timber panelling to the walls, but once again it’s the outlook that really makes this room special. Wake up in the morning, look through the window and your view is across the garden towards open green fields rather than directly into another house.
Bedroom three is a comfortable single bedroom and also enjoys that wonderful rear outlook. It would make an ideal child’s bedroom, nursery or guest room, but for anyone working from home it could just as easily become a dedicated office where looking out of the window might actually make answering those Monday morning emails a little more enjoyable!
Completing the first-floor accommodation is the family bathroom. The suite is more traditional in appearance than the newly refurbished ground floor, but everything is perfectly functional and ready to use, allowing the next owner to simply move in and decide in their own time whether they would eventually like to introduce a more contemporary finish. The three-piece suite comprises a panelled bath with shower over, WC and wash hand basin, complemented by fully tiled walls and recessed LED ceiling spotlights.
And then we head outside, because this is where Number 19 really comes into its own.
The rear garden enjoys a fabulous slightly elevated position with an open outlook across the neighbouring green fields, creating a feeling of space that can be incredibly difficult to find. An extensive patio immediately outside the house provides a brilliant area for outdoor furniture, barbecues and summer entertaining, while the lawn gives children and pets plenty of room to play.
At the far end of the garden is a further lower patio area, and we think this could quickly become one of your favourite places to sit. Put a couple of comfortable chairs down here, pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the open outlook at the end of a summer day - it’s a wonderfully peaceful little spot away from the house.
Two timber garden sheds provide plenty of useful storage for gardening equipment, tools, bikes and outdoor furniture, helping keep the rest of the garden tidy and organised.
Little Corby itself is brilliantly positioned for anyone who wants a village lifestyle while retaining straightforward access to Carlisle. Nearby Warwick Bridge provides useful everyday facilities, including a Co-op, while Warwick Bridge Primary School is also close by, with William Howard School serving as the secondary catchment school.
There are plenty of other nearby villages to explore too. Great Corby has its own primary school and nursery, while Hayton, Scotby and Crosby-on-Eden provide further village communities and schooling options within the wider area. Wetheral is also within easy reach and provides a railway station, giving the area another useful transport option.
Little Corby itself has The Otter Inn, a traditional village pub with food, drinks and outdoor seating.
The location is also extremely convenient for anyone travelling regularly. The nearby A69 provides the main road connection back towards Carlisle and east towards Brampton and Newcastle, while current bus timetables show regular services through neighbouring Warwick Bridge and Corby Hill with connections into Carlisle city centre.
What we really like about Number 19, though, is the combination it offers.
You’ve got a beautifully refurbished ground floor that feels modern, sociable and ready to enjoy from day one, but you’ve still got opportunities upstairs to gradually introduce your own style in the future. You’ve got three bedrooms, a conservatory, integral garage, ground-floor WC, EV charging point and driveway parking, but then you’ve also got that lovely garden and the wonderful open countryside outlook that gives the house an entirely different feel.
During winter, light the log burner and enjoy cosy evenings in the living room. When summer arrives, open the doors into the conservatory, head out onto the patio and enjoy the garden while looking across the fields beyond. And every day in between, you can stand at the kitchen sink and watch the countryside changing with the seasons.
Number 19 Hurley Road is a fantastic family home in a lovely village setting, and with its stylish new kitchen, impressive open-plan ground floor, log burner, conservatory, garage, parking and those wonderful open views, this really does deserve a place right at the top of your viewing list.
