Corbett Court is a Retirement Living Plus development by McCarthy & Stone for people aged 70 and over (consideration for 60- 65 years will be considered case by case). You may know this kind of scheme as assisted living. For many families, the biggest draw is knowing that Mum, Dad or a grandparent is living somewhere safe and well run. The management team is on site 24 hours a day, and staff carry out daily welfare checks. If something isn't quite right, someone will notice, even on days when the family can't pop round.

There's also a 24-hour emergency call system. Residents can wear a personal pendant, and call points are in the hall, bedroom, and bathroom, so help is never far away wherever they are in the flat. A camera entry system at the front door lets residents see who's there before they let anyone in.

This one-bedroom apartment is on the third floor, with a lift to every floor. The best feature is the west-facing balcony, which opens straight off the living room. It has room for a bistro table and chairs and looks out across the South Downs. It's a lovely spot for a cup of tea after lunch or a summer evening outside.

The flat is in good order throughout, and the layout is easy to live with. There's a comfortable living room and a separate kitchen. The double bedroom has its own walk-in wardrobe, which keeps clothes out of the way and the room clear. There's also a good-sized storage cupboard in the hall and a wet room with a level-access shower. It's a manageable size to look after, and you still have your own front door and the freedom to live as you like.

There's a friendly community here too. The residents' lounge runs regular activities and seasonal events throughout the year. The table-service restaurant serves freshly cooked meals every day, which is handy when you don't feel like cooking. When family come to stay, they can book the guest suite for a fee. Residents also have landscaped gardens and a laundry room. The building and grounds are maintained for you, so you don't have to worry about upkeep.

Location

Corbett Court is on The Brow, close to the centre of Burgess Hill. It's a convenient spot for anyone who wants to stay independent while keeping everyday essentials close by.

Waitrose, Iceland, and Boots are all within a six-minute walk. The town centre also has independent shops, banks, pharmacies and a Post Office. A gp surgery is right next to the development, which makes routine appointments easy. Plenty of cafés and pubs nearby make it easy to meet friends or family.

If you enjoy getting outdoors, St John's Park is about an eight-minute walk. It covers almost 12 acres, with level paths for a gentle stroll. The South Downs National Park is also a short drive away.

Getting around is simple without a car. A bus stops just outside the development, and Burgess Hill station is about a ten-minute walk away, with direct trains to Brighton and London. For drivers, the A23 is about five minutes away, giving quick access to Brighton, Gatwick and London. Hassocks and Haywards Heath are roughly ten minutes by car, and the nearest hospital is about four miles away.

Visiting family will find it easy to get here by road or rail. Being so close to the town centre also means residents can keep up their usual routines and stay part of the local community.
