Lefkara

Lefkara village is where the Cypriot folk needle craft art was born, the famous ' lefkaritiko ' in which the reputation of the craft has gone beyond the frontiers of Cyprus, and has become known in most of the European countries.

The village is situated at the foot of the Troodos Mountains in the south eastern region, it is not far from the sea yet is located high enough for the moist air coming in from the sea to get dry by the time it reaches the village.

It is said that the artist Leonardo Da Vinci visited Cyprus in the late 16th century as a guest of Catherine Cornaro where he purchased a large tablecloth embroidered on all sides, which he donated to the Milan Cathedral.
