Overlooking the Rance, the thousand-year-old village of St Sernin has developed amidst lush, abundant countryside. Here, the stones have a history, just like the people who shaped a place to live that is both mysterious and welcoming. The village is built right into the rock (schist)! In the historic centre, you can easily see the rock that served as the foundation at the base of the tall houses.
What makes Saint-Sernin so beautiful and charming are the many details that bear witness to its rich past and which you discover as you wander through its “carrierots” (winding alleyways in Occitan): Ornate balconies, beautiful Renaissance mansions with mullioned windows...
