Rainham as a fairly substantial suburban town with a village-style historic centre and easy access to countryside and the river. It's not a picturesque little Kent village throughout-there are sizeable residential estates and modern development-but the older High Street and surrounding countryside give it considerably more character than a purely residential suburb.
